DESIGNING FOR AN URBAN COMMUNITY
As part of a wider group project, I was tasked with the area directly outside the southern entrance of Headingley Stadium. The design aims were to create; A community space for residents to enjoy and for visitors entering the stadium. A restorative zone reflecting the surrounding countryside of Leeds. A space for reflection, interaction, biodiversity and inclusivity.
My design concept represents a multitude of contrasts, from the excitement of the stadium with its physical sport and music, to the balanced and harmonised connection to nature and the natural world directly adjacent to its boundaries.

LINKING TO THE DALES
The structural flow resonates with the outstanding natural beauty in the form of the surrounding Dales, which are both encompassing and integral to the identity of Leeds. The paving design is a combination of linear grey sandstone slabs, interjected with random placement of 60mm corten steel slabs, curved within sections of the pavement to follow the shape of the planters. This concept reflects contour lines in addition to creating interest to pedestrians whilst drawing them into the area.

A MULTITUDE OF CONTRASTS
The contrasting textures of the weathered corten steel and soft feathered planting engage visitors and create interest.
This will provide an enticing area for visitors to enjoy and immerse themselves within both the urban mountain sculptures and the calming enchantment of the featured planting.
